Centre: IDPs Gain Skills On Mushroom Farming

Lobo (Lékié) - As part of celebrations marking the 2026 edition of the International Day of the Family, May 15, 2026, the Cameroon Family Welfare Association (CAMFAWA), a Yaoundebased non-governmental organization, NGO, have begun training some female Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) on mushroom farming. Funded by a Korean Safety Health Environment, SHE, Foundation, the training seminar grouping over 30 female IDPs according to CAMFAWA officials, is intended to empower participants in mushroom cultivation as a medicinal, food and economic crop. The training workshop that is expected to run from May-October 2026, is taking place in Lobo, Centre Region. During this period, the trainees would have received theoretical lessons, embarked on the practical exercises and eventually do harvesting of mature mushroom. During the theoretical lessons, Friday, May 15, 2026, participants were drilled on the types of mushrooms, classifying some as medicinal and consumable. Some were described as dangerous and not good for human consumption. According to the expert trainers, the trainees would be drilled on the cultivation of ouster mushroom described as the specie good for human consumption. The trainers also harped on marketing strategies that would make poverty history in the families of the IDP mushroom farmers.
