Diaspora-Led Economic Development: Ministry Of External Relations Hosts Strategic Forum

A delegation from Horizon Cameroun and the Provincial Delegate (Quebec) of the Canada–Africa Chamber of Commerce recently held discussions in Yaounde.

As part of an official delegation mission to Cameroon, Oussoumanou Sehou, the Provincial Delegate (Quebec) of the Canada–Africa Chamber of Commerce, recently participated and spoke at a major forum organized by the Ministry of External Relations, MINREX for representatives of the Cameroonian diaspora. The high-level meeting served as a constructive platform to address the strategic role that citizens living abroad play in Cameroon's economic, social, and technological development.

Strengthening Ties, Facilitating Investments
The discussions centered on ongoing initiatives by Cameroonian authorities to strengthen ties with the diaspora. Encourage national development participation, and streamline contributions through investment, knowledge transfer, and expertise sharing.
MINREX officials presented various institutional mechanisms designed to support the diaspora. Deepen their involvement in national development projects, and promote productive investments within the country.

Experiences, Challenges
During the forum, several participants shared their experiences and the specific challenges Cameroonian expatriates face in their host countries. This open dialogue helped identify key areas for improvement to reinforce the bridges between the diaspora and national institutions, paving the way for more effective future collaboration.

Economic Gateways, Role Of GUCE
Representing the Canada–Africa Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Sehou delivered an address highlighting how the diaspora can act as an economic engine through international partnerships, targeted investments, and business creation.
A key focus of his intervention was shedding light on the critical role of GUCE (Guichet Unique des Opérations du Commerce Extérieur – the Single Window for Foreign Trade Operations). And other established mechanisms designed to assist investors and simplify trade operations between Cameroon and its global diaspora.
Mr. Sehou also presented the broader mission of the Canada–Africa Chamber of Commerce. Which dedicatedly connects African and Canadian economic ecosystems by fostering business relations, facilitating corporate matchmaking. And building sustainable bridges between investors, entrepreneurs, and institutions across both continents.

Building Momentum At Promote 2026
This strategic engagement at MINREX aligns closely with the Chamber's active participation in the Promote 2026 Salon, where numerous business meetings were organized with local companies, institutions, and potential partners. According to the delegation, these exchanges generated highly encouraging results and laid the groundwork for several promising partnerships across various industries.
