Geremi Njitap Bound For Chelsea

 Elizabeth MOSIMA
 [16/07/2003]

The 24-year-old star will have to pass a medical test this week.

Cameroonian football stars in the diaspora are being coveted by most European Clubs for their mastery of the king sport. Most of them have won the biggest contracts so far in the different European clubs. The extraordinary performance of the Indomitable Lions in the just ended Confederations Cup in France, has wetted the apetite of European club managers for these young stars. Geremi Njitap was on the limelight last week as Real Madrid has agreed to sell him to Chelsea for a fee of 6milliards CFA 6.9billion as Chelsea begins to campaign for the Champions League. Real Madrid will use the money to finance the signing of David Beckham from Manchester United. Personal terms have yet to be agreed with Geremi, who is on holiday in Cameroon following the recent Confederations Cup tournament. As far as the terms of the contract are concerned, things are working out but what is left is for Geremi passing the medical test this week. This is a great opportunity for Geremi who only played 12 last season for Real. At Chelsea, he will be a regular player. Geremi had an encouraging season for Middlesborough and Chelsea has got an excellent player for a decent price. Geremi had only two years left in his contract at Madrid. So it has been a good deal for everyone concerned. For Real, for Chelsea and for Geremi. However, Geremi is keen to return to the Premiership where he made an excellent impression last season and Stamford Bridge will be his next destination.
