Women’s Afrobasket : Cameroon Crashes Out

The Lionesses lost to Egypt 63-68 in their second game on Tuesday August 13, 2019 in Dakar. They have equally missed out of the 2020 Pre-Olympic qualifiers.

Africa for women’s basketball tournament at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Cameroon’s exit in the play offs means that they will equally be absent in the Olympic Games as only the top six teams will be qualified for the Africa Pre-Qualifying Tournaments. Cameroon exits the competition in the group stage with only one victory. The Lionesses beat Tunisia in their first outing 95-53. They were beaten by Nigeria 106-39 and Egypt 68-63. In the other play offs games; DR Congo beat Cape Verde 78-46 to reach the quarterfinals. Angola outplayed Kenya 64-51 and Côte d’Ivoire beat Tunisia 74-50. Angola, Senegal, Mozambique, Egypt, Nigeria, Congo, Mali and Congo qualified for the quarterfinals. At press time yesterday quarterfinal matches were still going on at the Dakar Arena

The Indomitable Lionesses have crashed out of the ongoing 2019 Afrobasket Women in Dakar, Senegal. The Lionesses lost to Egypt 63-68 in their second game on Tuesday August 13, 2019 at the Dakar Arena. The Lionesses put up a good performance dominating most part of the game but were unable to continue with their superiority till the end. Cameroon won the first quarter 18-12, drew 16-16 in the second quarter. At half time the score line was 34-28. They won the third quarter 20-12 but fell in the fourth quarter 9- 28. Cameroon’s best player was Marie Ange Mfoula who scored 12 points.

The Afrobasket tournament is also the first step for the qualification for FIBA
