2022-2023 School Year : Hitch-free Resumption In Place

Four government Ministers in a joint press conference yesterday August 30 assured the population of measures to ensure a smooth academic take-off.

As the academic year for 2022/2023 resumes on September 5, 2022, government has assured pupils, students, teachers and parents that measures have been to ensure a hitch-free resumption and subsequently the smooth functioning of the academic year. This was during a joint press conference on August 30, 2022 of the Ministers of Communication, Rene Emmanuel Sadi, Basic Education, Prof. Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa, Secondary Education, Prof. Nalova Lyonga, and Public Service and Administrative Reform, Joseph LE were present. The Ministers of Territorial Administration and Finance were represented at the presser.
With Cameroon having a total of 22,000 primary schools (14,000 government and 8,000 private) and 3,273 secondary schools (2,153 government and 1,120 private), the press conference was therefore to assure educational stakeholders of government's determination of ensuring a literate youthful population.
Communication Minister in his opening statement, noted that the 2021-2022 academic year was marked by strike actions from teachers relating to their career and working conditions, a situation which the directives of the President of the Republic have been implemented to ensure a functional educational landscape.
To the Minister of Basic Education, security and institutional measures have been reinforced to ensure the safety of pupils and teachers on campus. Presenting the balance sheet of the 2021-2022 school year and the perspectives of the upcoming school year, Minister Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa noted that last year's results of the First School Leaving Certificate in the North West and South West Regions witnessed a relative improvement. He added that less attacks on centres, pupils and teachers were also recorded as compared to previous years. As a security measure, the Minister explained that community schools, areas identified for attacks by separatist fighters have been closed in the two aforementioned regions.
Secondary Education Minister, Prof. Nalova Lyonga noted that the plus seven per cent increase registered in the results of the GCE is a great indicator. To her, the strike actions of teachers and the outbreak of the Covid-19 have manifested the character of the Head of State; a character of someone concerned about the youth as well as those taking car...
