Indomitable Lions: Some Grounds Remain Uncovered

The performance of Cameroon in the two friendlies in South Korea indicates that there is more work to be done in the different compartments to have a crack team for the World Cup.

L ess than two months to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, several Cameroonians nursed the hope of seeing a promising Indomitable Lions team at the two friendly matches recently played in South Korea in the September FIFA window. But the friendlies geared at testing new players and trying strategies, left much to be desired. It ended on a negative note with the Lions losing all two matches, conceding three goals and scoring none. The first disappointment started from the loss against Uzbekistan (2-0) on September 23, 2022 followed by the 0-1 defeat against South Korea indicative of a minor improvement. Even though the result may not matter in such encounters, the attitude of the players and the performance of the team still depicted some lapses indicating that more work needs to be done in the limited time left. While some players honourably defended their call ups, others failed to show their worth. As for the first match against Uzbekistan, the players had problems in combining in the different compartments as well as difficulties in effective communication. The attack was unable to score principally because of the almost inexistent nature of the midfield. The second encounter rather saw some improvements. The players produced a degree of quality football backed by some motivation, fighting spirit and technicality.
