Morocco-France : History In The Making

The Atlas Lions look to continue their fairy tale run by becoming the first African side to reach the final of the World Cup.

They are gradually going down as one of the biggest stories in the history of the World Cup tournament and engraving their names further is at their reach. Morocco are on the brink of becoming the first African nation to reach the final of a World Cup tournament when they take on defending champions France tonight in the second semi-finals. They already became the first-ever African side to reach the semi-finals when they knocked out Portugal last Sunday but their appetite keeps growing and they won’t settle for less. 
Head Coach Walid Regragui, the brain behind this success, has been in charge for just over 100 days but has been able to assemble a side that has become “giant killers”. In addition to the team’s star players, Hakim Ziyech (Chelsea), Achraf Hakimi (PSG), Noussair Mazraoui (Bayern Munich), he has got the others to gel in and play as one unit. Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou has been one of their heroes in the knockout stages; so too midfielder Sofyan Amrabat who has been pulling the strings in the midfield and getting his side tighter, making it difficult for opponents to break them down. 
Up next for Morocco later tonight are the defending Champions, France who are looking to become just the third side to make it back-to-back World Cup triumphs after Italy (1934, 1938) and Brazil (1958, 1962).
