Lionel Messi : Written In The Stars!

His double last night at the Lusail Iconic Stadium inspired Argentina to their first World Cup trophy in 36 years.

The script had been written ever since the first ball was kicked at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Lionel Messi was destined to win the only trophy that had been eluding him before ever calling out on his (international) career. The diminutive forward did step up to the plate last night as he has more often done in this tournament - scoring a brace as his side wrestled the trophy away from France. The Argentina Captain made no mistake as he put his side in front from the penalty spot after thirty-six minutes and his clever turn moments later created the chance for Angel Dí Maria to bury home the second goal from Julian Alvarez's cross. 'La Pulga' again put his side ahead in extra time after tapping in from close range in a game that was on a knife-edge.
Emiliano Martinez once again stepped up during penalty shootouts but the star of the day was Lionel Messi who reinforced his legacy as (arguably) the Greatest Player of All Times.
