Education: KOICA Alumni Cameroon Assists Orphans

The second award of scholarships to orphans and vulnerable children in Bafia took place on September 10, 2016.

The Korean International Cooperation Agency, KOICA, Alumni Association, Cameroon (KAAC) has once more brought hope to children in need in Bafia, Mbam and Inoubou Division of the Centre Region. This was during the second award of scholarships to orphans and vulnerable children in the area on Friday September 10, 2016.

The equipment was awarded to 35 orphans from different orphanages in Bafia and children in distress to enable them start the 2016/2017 academic year without hitches. Out of the number, 10 who did well last academic year received school fees and stationery. The school fees ranged from 30,000 FCFA and above. The President of KAAC, Amina Abdul épouse Nquenya, said the donation was in line with the humanitarian activities of the association.

She said through the gesture, KAAC intends to encourage academic hard work. Amina Abdul said the intention is to show their sympathy to the children and tell them they are not alone. The Assistant Divisional Officer for Bafia, Tchaha Thomas, hailed the members of KAAC for the kind gesture. He called on the beneficiaries to continue to work harder so that the donors will support them next year and even throughout their school life.

The scholarships are meant to reduce illiteracy in Cameroon, bring hope and smiles to care-givers of orphans and to improve cooperation ties between Cameroon and Korea. Also, the event aimed to follow up recipients of 2015 and to provide basic school needs to the same orphans that did well in the 2015/2016 academic year.
