International Badminton Tournament: Cameroon Grabs Eleven Medals

Over 20 players from seven African countries and Asia took part in the competition that rounded of in Yaounde over the weekend.

The national colours were flown high once more at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex on Sunday July 16, 2017. The event was the finals of the 2017 International Badminton Tournament that took place in Yaounde over the weekend. For three days, 27 badminton players from seven African countries and Asia displayed rich talents in the sport. It was an opportunity for the public to discover the game of badminton and for future players to discover new techniques in badminton.

In the women’s double, Laeticia Guefack Ghomsi and Louise Lisane Mbas won the first gold medal for Cameroon. They beat Louise Reine Mbida Mbida and Joel Ngadjui also from Cameroon 2-0 sets. In the mixed double, Antoine Eddy Owona Ndimako and Louise Reine Mbida Mbida won the second gold for Cameroon after beating the pair, Pierre Frederick Bitep and Louise Reine Mbida Mbida 2-0 sets. In the men’s double, Bahaedeen Ahmad Alshannik and Mohd Naser Mansour Nayef from Jordan beat Adham Hatem Elgamal and Mohamed Mostafa Kamel from Egypt 2-0 sets. In the Women’s single Hana Hesham Mohamed beat Madeleine Laeticia Akoumba Ze from Cameroon 2-0 sets while in the men’s single Bahaedeen Ahmad Alshannik from Jordan beat Sahil Sipani from India 2-1 sets.
