The third edition of the Yaounde Academic Excellence took place in Yaounde on Wednesday September 14, 2016.
The premises of the Yaounde V Sub divisional Council were exceptionally busy on Wednesday September 14, 2016. The event was the third edition of the excellence award ceremony to reward the best headmasters, teachers and school children who have worked hard during the last academic year. Organised by the Yaounde V Sub divisional Council, the event entailed distributing stationery to needy children in the municipality.
Speaking at the occasion, the Mayor of the Yaounde V Council, Yvette Claudine Ngono epse Etoundi Ayissi said the donation is proof of the determination of the Yaounde V Council to ensure the well being of the children and their efficient participation in nation building. She called on the beneficiaries to work hard this new school year and be good examples for others to follow.
A total of 165 beneficiaries from 33 primary schools, 66 teachers and 12 headmasters were awarded prizes. In a bid to contribute to the promotion of academic excellence, 200 benches were donated to schools in the municipality in order to facilitate learning and improve working conditions. It was also an occasion to hand over equipment to the needy and certain social centres in the Yaounde V Subdivision. Food items and stationery worth FCFA 1 million was given to Fondation Fact and FCFA 1 million went to the home for the elderly, Bethanie VIACAM in Nkolmesseng, Yaounde as contribution from the council for the renovation of a wall in the compound.
Apart from celebrating excellence, the Yaounde V Council also rewarded artistic and patriotic excellence to an artist, Ngouloure Mouliom Samuel Adalbert, one of the award winners of 2016 edition of the International Handicraft Fair in Yaounde. The artist also won the first prize for sculpture on bronze. The council also rewarded interns who participated in the programme to clear the municipality of plastic wastes within the framework of the fight against environmental pollution in the Yaounde V Council.
