Forest Management: Stakeholders Review Strides

 The actors used a symposium organised on Monday August 7, 2017, to chart future directions for innovations in community forestry in the country

 

Stakeholders in the forestry sector have brainstormed on two decades of community forest management in the country. The actors reflected on the theme: “Financing sustainable community forest enterprises,” during a symposium organised at CRESA Forêt Bois in Nkolbison Yaounde, Monday August 7, 2017. The symposium was organised by the World Agroforestry Centre, better known as the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF), and TMP Systems.
According to Dr. Peter A. Minang of ICRAF, community forestry in Cameroon faces many challenges but access to finance can galvanise viable and sustainable enterprise around forest products and services for the benefit of forest communities. In this light, he said the UK Department of International Development (DFID), has funded a five-year initiative dubbed ‘Dryad’ to enhance viable community forest enterprises (CFE) with sustainable livelihoods and environmental benefits through performance-based public finance and support mechanisms.
