Corrigendum : Prisons Decongestion Campaign Launched In Buea

Mme Kwamu Nana née Abunaw Marie has written to clarify the use of « Parole » in the article published in Cameroon Tribune of 13 July, 2019, (page 19) on prison decongestion efforts in Buea.
“The exercise concerns uniquely Awaiting Trial (Remand) inmates. Those who plead guilty will be taken to court and given quick judgement either for incarceration or for outright release for those whose stay in prison would have been superior to sentences passed.
The said exercise did not concern convicted inmates which would have warranted the implementation of the parole concept, which of course does not yet exist in Cameroon context and as such, cannot be applied.
