UNEP Baobab Staff Awards:Dr. Richard Munang Wins Programme Innovative Award

 

He was handed the prize on June 13, 2016 in Nairobi Kenya by outgoing UNEP Executive Director, Achim Steiner.

 

 

Dr. Richard Munang, United Nations Regional Climate Change Programme Coordinator in Africa, was on June 13, 2016, the sole winner in the Programme Innovation Award category of the UNEP Baobab Staff Awards programme. He was handed the prize in Nairobi Kenya by the outgoing Executive Director of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Achim Steiner at a ceremony recognizing achievements in five categories;  Environmental Service Award, Managerial Service Award, Outstanding Team Award, Programme Innovation Award and Support Service Award.

The Ca            meroon-born was recognized for spearheading the creation of the Africa Ecosystem Based Adaptation for Food Security Assembly, EBAFOSA. It is an innovative regional policy framework to harmonise, in a participatory way, policy and implementation actions toward up-scaling solutions in EBA-drive agriculture and value chains, to achieve EBA policy integration and concrete implementation through country driven processes and institutions. EBAFOSA has already been launched in seven countries and more are expected to follow suit just one year in existence. Dr. Munang thanked the UNEP staff for nominating him and said he was very humbled to be recognized and honoured with the award. He added that the project’s achievements are the result of excellent teamwork, hence thanked his colleagues for their continuous support and contribution in the project.
