Muyuka: Accident Leaves 18 Dead

The two survivors are under medical attention at the Muyuka District Hospital and Buea Regional Hospital

 

Saturday August 19, 2017, has again entered the annals of accidents on the dreaded Mile 29 hill between Ekona and Muyuka in Muyuka Sub-Division in the South West Region. Infamous for regular ghastly accidents, the hill again, at about 5:00 a.m. last Saturday. August 19, 2017 instantly took the lives of some 18 persons who were returning from a funeral wake-keep in Muyuka.
A 19-seater HIACE bus transporting members of a group “Wana Wa Wonja” was crushed by an on-coming truck suspected to have lost its brakes on the hill. All occupants were crushed to death by the heavily-loaded truck carrying cartoons of chocolate, chewing gum and other candies full to its brim. One of the two survivors of the mishap, Njomo Rodrigues, said to be the “motor-boy” succeeded to jump for safety and is now receiving medical attention with the risk of losing his arms. The other mwambo Ndike, is at the Buea Regional Hospital.
