Huawei Donates Library To GBPS Bastos, Yaounde

The donation, which includes computers, is intended to boost the study of Information and Communication Technologies, ICTs, among the 5,000 pupils.

 

The pupils and staff of Government Bilingual Primary School, GBPS, Bastos, Yaounde, were in a festive mood on Tuesday, September 20, 2016. The event was the inauguration of a Modern Library and the handing over of some equipment to GBPS Bastos Groups I, II and III by the Chinese-owned Huawei Technologies Company Limited, Cameroon. The event took place in the presence of the Political Counselor in the Chinese Embassy in Cameroon, Sun Wei. 

The donation comprised a modern library, computers, printers, benches, chairs and tables. Huawei also equipped the library. The event, which was the first of its kind in the Centre Region, was memorable to GBPS Bastos staff in particular and those of the Ministry of Basic Education in general. The Secretary General in the Ministry of Basic Education, Bisse Bea, said the gesture was a mark of the excellent relations between Cameroon and China. He said through the donation, not only has Huawei come to stay, but has thought well of Cameroon’s educational needs - the key to development.

The Director of Public Relations, Huawei Cameroon, Wu Jing, expressed hope that the donation will help the pupils begin the new academic year without any hitches and help develop the children. The Head Teacher of GBPS Bastos, Daniel Ngong Wango, said the opportunity offered by Huawei Cameroon will help boost the performance of learners in the near future. He assured Huawei of the teachers’ commitment to maintaining the donation. Daniel Wango promised Huawei Cameroon and education stakeholders that the library will be managed judiciously.

The modern library is equipped with required textbooks and education technology equipment for the 5,000 pupils of the Anglophone and Francophone sections of GBPS Bastos Complex. Huawei Cameroon was created in 2005. After 10 years, it has become one of Cameroon’s major partners in Information Communication Technologies, ICTs. Huawei Cameroon is committed to the economic and social development of Cameroon, officials restated.
