Paul Biya, Antonio Guterres Share Views

The Head of State was received in audience Friday in New York by the UN Secretary General.

President Paul Biya of Cameroon and Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations have shared their points of view on a wide-range of issues that are of concern to the global community today. More importantly, issues that touch on the two parties directly. The two leaders held in-camera discussions in the Secretary General’s office on Friday, September 22, 2017 on the sidelines of the 72nd UN Ordinary General Assembly. President Biya briefed the UN Chief Scribe on how his country has been striving to host thousands of refugees from the Central African Republic and Nigeria. While promising to continue in that light, the Head of State did not fail to state the weight of the responsibility on the government that is also battling on several fronts. The Biya- Guterres tête-à-tête therefore sought ways of globally mobilising resources, behaviours and actions to re-focus on people. The President also used the audience to enlighten the UN Secretary General on the path taken in the implementation of the Green Tree Accord concerning the Bakassi Peninsula, with the wish that the UN-constituted commission to that effect rounds off its work and for the mutual respect of engagements. Preoccupations which Mr. Guterres took note of with each party pledging to work harder to reinforce the existing fruitful partnership between Cameroon and UN. Mr Guterres upon taking up his daunting task of leading the world through the UN pledged his determination to strive for a world where the wellbeing of man is topmost in an initiative.
