“Congratulations To Cameroon”

Dr. Amr Elwani, President of the African Volleyball Confederation

What is your appraisal of the organisation of the 2017 Women African Volleyball Championship?

Off course I am very happy to be in Cameroon. The appreciation that the government of Cameroon and the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education and the Cameroon Volleyball Federation gave us all the facilities, all the demands. The success of a major event needs infrastructure, hotels, transportation, reception at the airport, food and everything. For me as an official all of us are happy. You have to be proud that you have such a sporting hall. You can play championships easily. That is why we brought the second world level to Yaounde which is the qualification for the World Championship and I believe it is successful. Your media is fantastic because if we play and nobody knows what were are doing it means we didn’t do anything. So we are well exposed to the world immediately. The support from the Minister of Sports is great, that from the President of the Cameroon Volleyball Federation is 100 per cent. The Control Committee is chaired by Mr. Mopita Jean Claude. He is looking after every point; refereeing, constructions, playground, balls discipline and all. I am happy. The spectators are wonderful, nothing out of the rules. So congratulations to Cameroon for this sportive spirit.

Are there any teams in this competition that have impressed you so far?

I am impressed with all the teams. We are coming to the final. Just to let you know this is only the final stage. We have zonal qualifications and these are the winners of all. We were involved with 37 teams so teams and this is the final. And I believe we are surprised with Senegal. We have Botswana and off course the oldest team is Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Cameroon and they are doing well. Even Nigeria they used to be champions 15 years ago. Now they are coming back. Sports and women is not easy. So to bring these numbers and to play it is great. This is to prove that volleyball is a family.
