Getting Into A Turning Point

The delegations of elite of the North West and South West Regions have been talking to representatives of socio-political and economic segments of the population of the two regions in a bid to quell down tempers and bring peace in response to the social crises that have rocked the area for the past one year. Instructed by the Head of State, President Paul Biya, the delegation created by the Prime Minister, Head of Government have as mission to meet the people, listen to them and size up how best to provide a lasting solution to the problems at hand. Even though controversy surrounded the choice of elite with outright questioning of the criteria used and some suspecting it's simply a party affair, there is every indication the response from the population has been generally positive. This in itself is an indication that both the population and government had developed an high thirst for dialogue. The Yang delegation presently on the field tells of the desire to end the crises and bring peace back on its rail. It is another milestone in the litany of efforts at solving the Anglophone problem. Earlier meetings expected to produce positive results remained mitigated from the point of view that they did not quench the fire of insurrection. But they however yield fruits in that they caused the implementation of some important decisions to the favour of the country's English speaking community. The present out of the elite of the two regions is setting ground for genuine dialogue to begin. Even though some are quick to qualify it as the dialogue itself already in place, many continue to think its a pacesetter or road cleaner. Whatever interpretation is being given to the Yang delegations, it is important to underscore the significance of the action that is being put in place. Representatives of some groups are fast in understanding that the golden opportunity that has been placed before them and are tabling all their problems squarely with the pious hope when the time for real dialogue comes, they will be brought to the table. Some are yet to swallow the bitter pill of the consequences of the September 22 and October 01 demonstrations, hence the outright rejection of the meeting with the delegation as evidenced by the riots registered in Menji, Lebialem Division.
