Postal Services: Airfreight Records Exponential Growth

International courier services recorded a 76 percent increase in transportation of mails by air in 2016.

Contrary to popular believe that postal services are declining due to digitalisation, statistics show there has been an exponential growth in the sector in Cameroon in the past couple of years. An official release from the Civil Aviation Authority shows there was a 76 per cent increase in transportation of parcels by air in 2016, according to ECOFIN news agency. Airfreight hit 25,505 tonnes in 2016, representing an increase of 10,500 tonnes from 15,000 tonnes recorded in 2015.

According to the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority, there was an increase in the number of regular commercial flights in the past year. Analysts say this is one of the apparent reasons for the remarkable increase in airfreight. In addition to the 17 regular commercial airlines and the five non-scheduled operators registered in the Cameroon skies, the air freight sector is also animated by specialized companies.
