Jeune Afrique Ranking: Cameroon Banks Top Chart In Sub-region

Three of the commercial banks made it on the recontly published list of the 200 most performing in Africa.

The international independent weekly magazine, Jeune Afrique has published its 2017 list of the 200 most performing banks on the African continent. The ranking published in a special edition of Jeune Afrique (No.47) has Standard Bank Group of South Africa as the first most performing bank on the continent.

The bank which maintains its 2016 position recorded a total running capital of US$141.842 billion (about FCFA 79.4 trillion). The first five top banks all emerged from South Africa.

At the level of central Africa, six banks operating in Cameroon made it to the list of top 50, with at least two amongst the first five banks in the sub-region. Afriland First Bank of Paul Fokam Kammogne came third, after BGFI Bank Gabon and BGFI Bank Holding Corp. (Gabon).

Afriland Frist Bank, which is the first Cameroon bank to feature at the 142nd position of the continental top 200, recorded a capital of US$1.518 billion (about FCFA 849.6 billion).
