Drug Abuse Control: Operational Framework Discussed

 Measures to minimise the phenomenon by the youths were deliberated by the Parliamentary Network “Espérance Jeunesse” on November 15, 2017.

 

The alarming rate of drug abuse and alcohol consumption among youths has pushed some Members of Parliament, MPs, to the deliberating table in a bid to improve and make operational the framework for the prevention, sensitisation and repression as well as the legal provisions relating to the control of this malpractice. The MPs meeting under the Parliamentary Network of “Espérance Jeunesse” at the National Assembly on November 15, 2017 sought measures for the promotion of policies and actions that will drastically reduce alcohol consumption and drug abuse amongst the younger population.
Opening consultations at the Glass House, the Deputy Speaker, Hon Kombo Gberi, bemoaned the negative effects of drugs such as the health, behavioural and mental consequences on the youth who are the active population of the country. He expressed hope to see the proper implementation of drug abuse control mechanisms so as to reduce the environmental, social and other repercussions that come from these misconducts.
