Victims of Violence in the SW: Defence Minister Extends Condolences

Soldiers and gendarmes wounded in attacks in Mamfe and receiving medical attention in Douala are steadily recovering.

 

The Minister of Defence, Joseph Beti Assomo, has taken the Head of State’s message of condolence and encouragement to military and security forces hospitalised at the Second Region Military Hospital in Douala. The victims comprised of soldiers and gendarmes wounded in attacks while maintaining security in Mamfe in the South West Region of Cameroon undergoing medical treatment at the health structure. “We wish you quick recovery” were the words of the Minister, who was in Douala December 7, accompanied by the Delegate General for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguele.
In a guided tour led by the Director of the hospital, Col. Abeng Mbozo’o, the august guests learned the different circumstances under which the defence and security forces were wounded while maintaining security in Mamfe in the South West Region and medical measures employed to ensure their recovery. In one of their stopovers in a ward where victims were found, Col. Abeng Mbozo’o told the Ministers that bruises sustained by one of the soldiers aggravated but that the hospital beefed up care to control the situation. At the next stopover, a soldier who sustained wounds following an attack in Mamfe was said to have been picked up by a family from a bush. At his arrival in the hospital he was taken to the Reanimation Ward where he spent between two and three days not because he was at risk but in order to prevent any danger, according to Hospital Director.
