Decentralisation: Municipal Development Support Programme Launched

The second phase of the initiative was launched in Yaounde on December 12, 2017 by Minister Rene Emmanuel Sadi with assistance from the German non-governmental organisation, GIZ.

The government of Cameroon through the Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation, Rene Emmanuel Sadi in partnership with the Federal Republic of Germany, has launched the second segment of the Support Programme for Municipal Development, PROMUD.

The initiative, funded by the German non-governmental organisation, GIZ, is expected to run from 2017-2020 and has as objective accompanying municipalities to fulfill their tasks for sustainable local development. It will be operating in the North and South West region of the country.

Launching the programme, Minister Rene Sadi said the project will reinforce multidimensional capacities across municipalities, improve collaboration between diverse actors in decentralisation and local development while securing a more participative approach to local governance.

With Cameroon being a unified decentralized State, the Minister said the initiative will not only improve the living standards of the population but will also foster the principle of good governance, and separation of powers for an inclusive participation of all parties in the development of the nation.
