Senators Take Home Peace Message

 Senate President urged them to continue working for Cameroon to face peace, security, development, living together and fight against corruption challenges.

Senators go back to their respective constituencies after the November 2017 ordinary session of Parliament with the mission to continuously work towards preserving peace and stability in Cameroon in order to attract the highest possible number of investors and orientate them to all regions.

They also have the mission “to mobilise themselves without restraint or reserve to bring Cameroonians wherever they find themselves, the message of peace, peaceful cohabitation of all components of the population.”

The President of the Senate, Marcel Niat Njifenji gave Senators the mission in his closing speech of the November 2017 ordinary session of the Parliament in Yaounde on  December 13, 2017. The Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, cabinet ministers led by Prime Minister Philemon Yang and some heads of diplomatic missions attended the closing plenary sitting of the Senate.

It opened with minute of silence and message of condolence of the Senate to the Speaker of the National Assembly on the occasion of the death of the Secretary General of the National Assembly, Victor Yene Ossomba.

Context of Session

The message of the Senate President took into cognizance the prevailing situation in the restive North West and South West Regions of the country where fresh attacks perpetrated by “ terrorist gangs claiming to belong to a secessionist movement”  have left the great family of the defence and security forces and Cameroon as a whole bereaved.

On behalf of the Senators, President Marcel Niat Njifenji condemned the unacceptable barbaric acts and violent upheavals, stating that, “the Republic cannot and shall not tolerate lawless zones on whatsoever part of the national territory.”
