South West: Door-To-Door Registration of Voters Adopted

The campaign was launched in Buea on January 10, 2018, by the South West Regional Delegation of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM.

Eligible voters in Buea Subdivision of age 20 and above have started enlisting their names into the electoral list. The exercise to revise the electoral registers for 2018 in the South West Region was launched at regional headquarter, Buea, at Check Point on January 10, 2018.

During the ceremony, megaphone, mobile announcing vans calling loud for people to enlist their names in the voters register were used. The sound blazing from the communication devices had series of messages explaining the importance of voting.

At Bongo Square, Buea Town, Bolifamba and Check Point, Cameroon Tribune observed long queues as people tried to get their names on the electoral register. South West Regional Delegate of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, Mukete née Bezujuh Evelyn, said that when voters registration opened on January 2 to 10, 2018, some 500 voters across the region had enrolled their names on the electoral register.

With the turn out for registration during the launch on Wednesday January 10, she expected the figures to rise tremendously. Across the region, she planned to embark on a door-to-door campaign to get as many potential voters on the electoral list as possible.
