Fight Against Corruption : British High Commission Trains 23 Cameroonians

 A reception in their honour took place last Thursday January 18, 2018 in Yaounde.

Some 23 Cameroonian small business executives who have completed training in private sector corporate governance and ethics last Thursday, January 18, 2018 were honoured by the British High Commissioner in Yaounde during a reception which could be termed a “graduation party.”

The training programme, which took place from September, 2017 to this month, comprised workshops, master classes and corporate internship placements in the compliance departments of some leading companies in Cameroon which are all members of the Business Coalition Against Corruption (BCAC).

During the Corporate and Compliance Directors’ workshop some 45 participants from the functions of Corporate Compliance, Legal, Regulation, Policy, Commercial and Financial Directors improved their awareness and understanding of regional efforts on the fight against corruption and on the 2016 Cameroon anti-corruption laws and also lead successful deployment of Corporate Code of Conduct.

There was also an induction workshop about Corporate Anti-corruption Ethics & Compliance Programme (ECP) which involved 22 participants from SMEs. Some 24 participants undertook training in two master classes in order to be equipped with appropriate tools and techniques in putting in place an ECP in their respective enterprises.

The training and mentoring programme was funded by the British High Commission in Cameroon to the tune of £18,200 (FCFA 15,400,000). During the reception, the British High commissioner, Rowan James Laxton said the Business Coalition Against Corruption is a private sector-led initiative that is committed to tackling corruption among businesses in Cameroon.
