Buea Youth Show Belief In Unity

 For two hours thirty minutes, they held the public spellbound at the ceremonial grounds in the South West Regional capital.

Activities at the Buea ceremonial ground unfolded between 10:15 am and 12:45 pm. The South West Regional Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai’s arrival at the Independence Square raised the curtain for this year’s 52nd Youth Day events at the Regional Capital, Buea.

A sunny climate augured a splendid march-past of pupils, students and youth groups. Billboards were very present to denote the socio-political climate of the time. “We Love to Go to School”, one of the written messages carried by pupils waved like the cry of Buea children wishing to be delivered from the bondage of school boycott. And so their numbers and ranks swelled with measured steps balanced with swinging arms in marching files.

After listening to a replay, on loud speakers, of President Paul Biya’s message to the youth, the Primary schools opened the march-past with pupils neatly dressed in their uniforms. Then came the turn of secondary education with Bilingual Grammar School Molyko, GHS Bokwaongo, GTHS Buea, GHS Buea Rural and others marching in segments well arranged to give the day the deserved spark.

Confessional secondary education institutions stole the show in particular marching styles. Notably were Saint Joseph’s College Sasse, Bishop Rogan College, PCHS, Baptist High School as well as the Lay colleges like Somerset Bilingual College and Salvation among others.
