Kribi Container Terminal: Strategic In Transit Time Reduction

The terminal jointly operated by three enterprises is capable of berthing vessels as long as 400m and carrying 100,000 tons of goods.

The container terminal of the Kribi Deep Seaport (PAK) has been put to commercial use. The first vessel – CMA CGM BIANCA docked at the wharf of the port in Mboro, Friday March 2, 2018. The CMA CGM BIANCA (8,721 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units) which is 335 meters long became the largest vessel to call in Cameroon.

Experts in maritime transport say the Kribi hub, which is strategically located in the Golf of Guinea, will significantly reduce transit times. It will offer new multimodal opportunities from Kribi to domestic destinations in Cameroon, Central African Republic and Chad. Officials of CMA CGM; operator in maritime transport and member of the consortium managing the terminal, told reporters the terminal will considerably reinforce their offer in the region. They intend to put in place four new weekly services at Kribi. Also, CMA CGM will use Kribi as a strategic hub to connect Democratic Republic of Congo and Gabon.

Located in the locality of Mboro, some 40km from the seaside resort city of Kribi, the Kribi Container Terminal has the capacity of accommodating 300,000 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units per year on a 10 hectare surface. With a 16m deep wharf, vessels carrying up to 100,000 tons can berth at the terminal. The terminal is capable of hosting ships as long as 400m, thanks to its 350m-long dock line.
