China’s Multiparty Cooperation : An Example Worth Emulating

The country’s democratic practice is adapted to suit local culture.

China is a multiparty country with the Communist Party of China (CPC) the governing party. Xi Jinping is seen as political adept, having put forth new thinking, judgments and requirements, and given informed answers to major theoretical and practical issues pertaining to development.

He put forth multiparty cooperation and political consultation, which he described as “a great contribution to political civilization of humanity,” and “a new type of party system growing from China’s soil.” Xi spoke at panel discussion with political advisors from the China Democratic League and the China Zhi Gong Party, people without party affiliation and members of returned overseas Chinese.

It was the first session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on March 4, 2018, a day ahead of the first plenary session of the ongoing parliamentary session.

He said multiparty cooperation and political consultation are new because they combine Marxist political party theories with China’s reality and represent the fundamental interests of all people and all ethnic groups. It fulfills their aspirations, avoids the defects of the old-fashioned party system which represented only a selective few or vested interests.
