Sumptuous Luncheon Ends Festivities

First Lady Chantal Biya joined other women in a common meal she offered at the Hilton.

The 33rd International Women’s Day has come and gone but the echoes will linger on for some time. The over 65,000 women who turned up at the May 20 Avenue in downtown Yaounde will not only remember their communion with First Lady, Chantal Biya during the over three-hour march-past, but more importantly, the common meal they shared together thereafter, at the Hilton Hotel.

In a relax mood, typical of herself, Mrs Biya spent quality time with women of all walks of life dining and dancing, no doubt in celebrating strides recorded thus far in the emancipation of the Cameroon woman. But not forgetting the path that is still to be covered.

In the spirit of the theme of the festivities, the luncheon; like the stylish march-past, celebrated the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of the Cameroonian woman.

Be it in song and dance, through the numerous dance groups that thrilled attendees, or performance by the humourists, the path women have covered from yesteryear’s subordinates to men to today’s valuable companions were highlighted.

Even as Cameroon’s cultural diversity was hugely depicted in food served the First Lady and her guests, the groups chosen to animate the crowd-pulling feast were equally reflective of the country’s rich culture.

From north to south and east to west, the dance groups, the rhythms of their songs and the messages they carried held attendees of the luncheon spellbound. Very few of the guests could resist the music and the styles the dancers employed. And in show of fraternity, the women joined the dancers on stage not only to enjoy the music, but equally to encourage them in the art.
