
In a press briefing at Bota Limbe on March 15, 2018, they told the media that all is set for March 25, 2018 Senatorial elections in the Region.
Board Members of Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) on a five day mission to the South West have stated that it is obligatory for all municipal councilors to vote in the upcoming senatorial elections. They cited section 227(2) of the electoral code to that effect. Christopher Tiku Tambe and Ejake Mbonda Thomas said that Municipal councilors are not to be compared by their political parties to vote a particular list. They explained that the senatorial election is through an indirect universal suffrage.
As such the councilors should vote base on their judgment of the candidates and lists, not pressure from their political parties. They promised legal action against any individuals or political parties seen with voting materials out of the election hall to show as proof that they voted this or that party.
“They law makes it illegal for one to come out with voting material from a voting centre,” they explained in English and French Languages.
Christopher Tiku Tambe stated that they came to the South West to evaluate the state of preparedness. They checked if electoral cards are being distributed and whether the lists of electors have been put up.
