Senatorial Election: last Stages Toward Proclaiming Results

The National Commission for the Final Counting of Votes has submitted a report of all its operations and the two petitions have to be ruled on.

Efforts are being stepped up at the Constitutional Council to proclaim the results of the election of Senators of March 25, 2018 within 15 days following the close of the poll as provided for in Section 240 (1) of the Electoral Code.

After two days and some hours of serious work, the National Commission for the Final Counting of Votes submitted a copy of the report of all its operations with the appended documents to the Constitutional Council.

This crucial step of the electoral process that took place on Thursday, March 29, 2018 well ahead of the five days as provided by Section 69 (4) of the Electoral Code comes to pave the way for the remaining last stages.

The President of the National Commission for the Final Counting of Votes, Emile Essombe led a delegation that handed the report to the President of the Constitutional Council, Clément Atangana at the Council’s head office at the Yaounde Conference Centre. While receiving the report, Clément Atangana said it would facilitate the other processes leading up to the proclamation of the results of the election.

Reports say, the Commission worked on the report from the Far North Region up to the early hours of Thursday, March 29. In the coming days, the Constitutional Council will rule on the two petitions filed in calling for the cancellation of the election results in the South West and West Regions. One of the petitions was filed by Youmo Koupit Adamou, candidate in the election of senators on the list of the Cameroon Democratic Union (CDU) in the West Region.
