MTN Elite One: Coton Sport Bounces Back

They beat Aigle Royal of Menoua 2-0 in a delayed day 16 match yesterday April 23 in Garoua to occupy the top spot with 33 points.

Coton Sport of Garoua have bounced back to the top of the MTN Elite One championship. The found their way to the top again after they beat Aigle Royal of Menoua 2-0 in a delayed day 16 match of the national championship in Garoua yesterday April 23, 2018.

Coton Sport that went into the competition with 30 points after the 15th playing day were able to grab the three points of the day to secure a comfortable top seat. Coton Sport is now topping the league table with 33 points. They are followed by UMS of Loum 31 and Fovu of Baham 31 points. UMS of Loum played a 0-0 tie with Astres of Douala at the Molyko Stadium in Buea on Sunday April 22, 2018.

That was the first draw for the team in the last five matches. They are followed by Fovu of Baham with 31 points. Seven out of nine matches were played on April 22 with eight goals scored and three draws registered. In Yaounde, Fovu of Baham beat newly promoted AS Fortuna 2-0 to reach the second spot.

That was the third win for Fovu in the last five matches and the ninth in the season. AS Fortuna now occupies the ninth position on the classification table with 20 points. The team registered two defeats, two draws and only one victory since the start of the season. At the Yaounde Military Stadium, Unisport Bafang thrashed reigning champions, Eding Sport FC, 3-1.

The defeat was the third in the last five matches for the Lekié team. The team is gradually descending to the relegation zone. In Melong, Stade Renard beat Dragon Yaounde 1-0. That was the fourth win for Stade Renard this season. Stade Renard has now moved to the 14th position on the classification table with 17 points. Bamboutos of Mbouda played a 0-0 tie with Feutcheu of Djiko. The draw is the sixth for Feutcheu FC this season while it is the seventh for Bamboutos.

New Stars beat APEJES Academy 1-0 making a total of five wins for New Stars this season. New Stars is now 13th on the classification table with 18 points. The game between Yong Sports Academy and Union Sportive of Douala ended in a goalless draw. The other delayed match for the 16th playing day of the MTN Elite championship between Yafoot and Colombe of Dja and Lobo will take place tomorrow April 25, 2018.
