Zimbabwe: Ex-President Robert Mugabe To Testify In Parliament
Zimbabwe's former leader Robert Mugabe has been summoned to attend a parliamentary committee hearing on May 23, 2018 to provide details on comments he made in 2016 that the country lost 15 billion US dollars (8,332 billion FCFA) in diamond mining revenue. The BBC said Mugabe at the time attributed the huge loss to “corruption and foreign exploitation.” A parliamentary notice released on May 21, 2018 said the ex-President’s appearance was “subject to confirmation.” An earlier scheduled hearing was postponed. Mugabe, 94, was obliged by the military and the ruling ZANU PF party to resign last November.
