South Africa: Ramaphosa Donates Half Salary To Charity

South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa on May 25, 2018 marked 100 days in office since taking over from Jacob Zuma on February 14, 2018. The billionaire businessman-cum President used the occasion to announce that he will be donating half of his monthly salary of 290,000 US dollars (162,239,000 FCFA) to the Nelson Mandela Foundation, the BBC reported. Ramaphosa, who also announced a wide-ranging corruption investigation across government departments, expressed hope that the gesture will be emulated by others to promote community projects. Since taking over, he has sacked 10 ministers, appointed the police commissioner, the head of crime intelligence and the head of the elite police unit, The Hawks.
