Central African Athletics Championship: Cameroon Sweeps 27 Medals

Over 30 athletes represented the country in the competition that ended in Kinshasa on May 25, 2018. 

The first edition of the Central African Athletics Cubs Championship ended at the ‘Stade de Martyrs’ in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, on May 25, 2018. Organised by the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) the competition brought together men and women’s athletics clubs from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon and Congo Brazzaville.

Cameroon was represented at the competition by the Armed Forces and Police Athletics (FAP) Athletics Club. The FAP delegation comprised of 30 athletes and 12 coaches. For two days lovers of athletics in the Central African Region watched with enthusiasm young athletes discover rich talents in the sport.

The athletes competed in several disciplines in track and field. These include 100m, 400m, 1500m, 5000m, 10km walk and the 20km walk for the track event. The field events included the long jump, high jump, shot put and javelin throw.

At the end of the competition Cameroon won 27 medals; 13 gold, 10 silver and four bronze. In the women’s 100m race, Abessolo Bivina finished first. In the men’s 100m race Petnga Maxime won gold. In the women’s 1500m race Nguetsa Liliane was the best while Desidi Romain won gold in the men’s 1500m competition.
