Kim-Trump Summit: North Korean Official Heads To US For Talks
Gen. Kim Yong-chol, a former North Korean intelligence chief is travelling to the US to prepare for the June 12, 2018 summit in Singapore between North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un and his US counterpart, Donald Trump. The news was confirmed on May 29, 2018 by President Trump, who added that “a great team” was already put together for the talks, the BBC reported. Gen. Kim Yong-chol is regularly seen by the North Korean leader's side and has attended meetings with the leaders of China and South Korea, and met US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Pyongyang. Last February, he was sent to the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics in South Korea.
