CICR Advocates Humanitarian Law Education

A round table conference to this effect took place recently in Douala.
The International Committee Red Cross, CIRC in partnership with the University of Douala from June 12th to 14th at the hotel Prince de Galles in Douala, organized a roundtable conference on the teaching of international humanitarian law.
The conference which brought together some 25 lecturers and 30 students from government and private universities in Cameroon examined issues such as the scope of implementation of international humanitarian law, armed actors and protected persons in humanitarian law, the implementation and repression of violations and the teaching of international humanitarian law proper.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the CICR regional legal adviser, Claudine Mushobekwa, representing the head of the CICR delegation in Cameroon, said the objective of the conference is to incite lecturers and students to study and practice humanitarian law. She said CICR is a neutral organization out to offer help in conflict situation, promote international humanitarian law and encourage countries to ratify related treaties.
