Sino-Cameroon Ties: Growing Business Interest Expressed

President Paul Biya left the Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, FOCAC, with concrete achievements for business promotion in the country.

China and Africa are resolutely engaging in building bridges across any differences that could hamper trade, economy and development as a whole. Conscious of the diversity that the national economy requires in Cameroon, President Paul Biya led an official delegation of fifteen Cabinet Ministers and leaders of business enterprises to Beijing for the Third Forum of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, FOCAC.

Besides active participation at the two-day summit from 3-4 September, 2018, with a presentation of the vision Cameroon has for the "New Silk Road Belt and Maritime Silk Road Initiative” which is the bedrock of President Xi Jinping's partnership with Africa, Mr. Biya also held discussions with the Chinese leader on arrival in Beijing on Friday 31 August, 2018.

The immediate outcome of the audience was the signing of two accords the same day namely; A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the joint construction of Africa-China “Belt and Road Initiative” and an agreement to ensure technical assistance by China to the Gynaecological Hospital in Yaounde as well as the hospitals in Buea and Mbalmayo.

The Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella and Alamine Ousmane Mey of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development signed both documents in the presence of Presidents Paul Biya and Xi Jinping. To make the best out of the overture that FOCAC presents, President Paul Biya instructed his collaborators to proceed with further useful engagements for Cameroon.

Thus, the Minister of External Relations signed another important accord with the International Bamboo and Rattan Organisation (INBAR) on 2nd September, 2018 on the establishment of INBAR Central African Regional Office in Yaounde. The Director General of INBAR, Dr Hans Friederich qualified the move as an opportunity for a multifaceted development in Cameroon thanks to the wide spread experience that his institution has gained over the years.
