Evangelism on Social Media

Facebook and WhatsApp are awash with religious messages urging people to turn to God.

The social media has become a fertile ground for fishers of men to fish for souls. The so called men of God inundate people’s accounts with messages urging people to turn to god in these hard times.

The message maybe an excerpt from the Holy Scriptures or a prayer with the potency to change one’s life for the better or simply a prophesy which is usually the sender’s interpretation of social happenings. It may end there or continue with an invitation to the reader to join them in prayer or to know more about the religious denomination. It is worthy to mention that the most prominent churches on the social media are Pentecostals. Some content themselves by dishing out simple religious messages like a certain Buma Kor, who regularly sends out messages titled, ‘Morning glory’.

As concerns prayers, someone sends a message to your timeline or inbox, claiming the prayer has the potency to do miracles in your life and that if you believe, you should send the message to about ten other people, at times including the sender, in order to benefit from the potency of the payers.

It may also contain a warning that failure to forward the message to other would cause ill luck and testimonies given of people who either respected the message and received blessings or ignored it and had ill luck. Besides the quotations and prayers are prophecies.
