North West: Security Controls Stepped Up

North West Governor discourages transporters from carrying compromising materials and perpetrators of violence.

The movement of persons and goods in the North West region is subject to strict professional controls ahead of the October 7, 2018 presidential election and end-of-year festivities in the face of challenges featuring ongoing killings, kidnappings for ransom, destruction of personal documents, generalized vandalism targeting education stakeholders, civilian masses, defence and security forces and above all threats from secessionist to ground socio -economic activities and block the circulation of persons.

A press statement by North West Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique on September 14, 2018 stresses that the measures are inspired by the government's preparedness to guarantee collective safety and security of movements.

The statement reveals that recent search operations conducted at some check points discovered short guns, cartridges, locally fabricated explosives and compromising objects, indicative of activities intended to increase violence. It is against this backdrop that the Governor called for reason, restraint, discernment and the civic responsibility of all with a special appeal to commercial motorcycles riders and taxi drivers to avoid transporting compromising materials and perpetrators of violence else they will be treated as accomplices.
