Plastic waste: Olembe Gets Recycling Unit

An initiative to fight against pollution and unemployment in Cameroon was launched on September 17 by the Minister of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development.

Minister Hele Pierre in the company of Dr Nana Aboubakar, Minister Delegate in Charge of Environment on the 17th of September 2018, paid a working visit to Olembe. The visit was aimed at inaugurating the waste transformation center in Cameroon. An initiative put in place by football icon, Roger Milla in 2015.

The project consists in gathering waste materials such as plastic papers and containers for transformation into pavement tiles used for road construction. According to the Minister, the project will not only solve the problem of pollution in Cameroon but will also go a long way to solve the problem of unemployment.

He expressed satisfaction with the project and encouraged the Roving Ambassador, Roger Milla to enforce the project because it is of vital importance for the development of the nation. The Minister further recognized the fact that the project is still manually done to a greater extent. Notwithstanding, enormous efforts are being made to improve the situation.
