US Election: Campaigns Enter Final Phase

The main candidates, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have only this week to convince electors ahead of the election on November 8, 2016.

In exactly one week, Tuesday, November 8, 2016 American electors will go to the polls in a presidential election that pits Democratic party candidate, Hillary Clinton against her Republican party rival, Donald Trump. The two candidates have only this week to convince undecided voters who will vote on the election day considering that early voting had already started following calendars set up by the various States.

This is a critical moment in the electoral process with each candidate trying to maximise their winning chances. The Democratic party candidate, Mrs Clinton is facing last minutes challenges with the issue of email scandals resurfacing. Democratic leader in the Senate, Harry Reid, BBC reports, has accused the Director of FBI, James Comey of breaking the law by revealing the bureau was investigating emails possibly linked to Hillary Clinton.

Harry Reid reportedly accused James Comey of violating an act which bars officials from influencing an election. News on the FBI inquiry on the email comes a few days to the election and it is reportedly likely that investigators can give a verdict on them before election day. Reports say the FBI believes the emails might be "pertinent" to its previous inquiry into Mrs Clinton's use of a private server when she was Secretary of State in the Obama administration.
