Kumba: Reckless Driving Kills One In Mabonji

A truck crushed three cars before ending up in a nearby house.

 

Though the Ministry of Transport continues to burn midnight night oil to ensure safety on the country’s roads, reckless driving remains a major problem. Drivers with experience from carwash points who do not bother to attend any driving school, not to talk of having any knowledge of the Highway Code, are the ones driving heavy-duty trucks today.

An example is the accident that occurred on Friday, October 7, 2016, at Mabonji village on the Kumba-Buea road at about 5 pm, resulting in the death of the Meme Divisional Delegate for Employment and Vocational Training, Motoma James Manga. Eyewitnesses said the over-speeding 20-tonne truck, which was heading to Kumba from Buea, tried to overtake another vehicle on a hill without taking any precaution about oncoming vehicles.
