2018 WAFCON: Kenya To Replace Equatorial Guinea

They qualified for the tournament after the disqualification of the Zalang National by CAF on October 17, 2018.

The Harambee Starlets of Kenya will replace Equatorial Guinea in this year’s Women’s African Cup of Nations in Ghana. The Football Kenya Federation (FKFF) made the announcement yesterday. The Zalang National of Equatorial Guinea will be absent from the tournament following the team’s disqualification by the African Football Confederation (CAF).

Kenya initially protested against six players fielded by Equatorial Guinea after the two-time winners, Equatorial Guinea, beat Kenya 3-2 on aggregate in the final round of the qualifiers of the 11th edition the women’s tournament but saw it dismissed.

The Kenyan Federation further lodged an appeal but this time narrowed it to one player. The Confederation of African Football upheld FKF’s protest over one player, Anette Jacky Messomo. The player in question was allegedly of Cameroonian nationality and had played for several European-based clubs.
