Group FADOUL, Yaounde: Workers Go On Strike

Work is grounded in the company since Tuesday November 1, 2016.  

 

In the past two days, workers of MITCAM and SACAM in Yaounde, two companies belonging to Group FADOUL with headquarters in Douala, have stopped work. Early on Monday November 1, 2016, the disgruntled workers went to the entrance of the company in Mvog-Mbi, Yaounde, on the road to the Air force Base, to make their voices heard. Work was completely grounded while the strikers waited impatiently for a solution to their demands. The main workshop and all the offices were closed and no vehicles were allowed to enter or leave the premises.

Among the workers’ complaints are non-payment of salary arrears, National Social Insurance contributions, death allowances, respect of the Labour Code, severance allowances and the absence of dialogue between management and workers. The representative of SACAM in Yaounde, Apollinaire Kitio, said workers of both companies could not continue to stomach the situation; reason why they went on strike. He said workers have complained to the Labour Inspectorate, the Minister of Labour and Social Security, the Governor of Centre Region and even the Prime Minister’s Office. Kitio said prior to the strike, they lodged a complaint with the Divisional Officer of Yaounde IV Subdivision, Motassi Locko.

Apollinaire Kito said each time they complain, the Divisional Officer summons management, but they have never turn up. As a result, the employers decided to go on strike. SACAM workers are owed seven months backlog of salaries, while in MI...
