Awaited Swearing In of President-elect: Humanitarian Assistance Relieves Pain in SW

Consignments of consumables and building materials have continued to be conveyed to the crisis region for assistance and reconciliation

The population of the South West Region is all ears and eyes for the swearing in of the newly-elected President Paul Biya. A new engagement is expected of the winner of the last 7 October Presidential election for the next seven years at the helm of Cameroon.

Amid the anxiety, a cargo of consumable goods and building material was conveyed into the South West Regional capital, Buea, yesterday afternoon en route to the hinterlands of the Region for distribution to displaced persons and victims of the on-going socio-political crisis.

The first beneficiaries were revealed by the Director of Civil Protection who headed the transportation of the goods to be Manyu, Ndian, Meme and Fako.

As Mariatou Yap explained, more assistance will come in according to the needs. The Director of Civil Protection at the Ministry of Territorial Administration, Mariatou Yap, joined the South West Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai, to call on the displaced population to retire from their hideouts and benefit from the gifts.

As the Governor welcomed the material and those conveying it at the Buea ceremonial grounds on 1st November, 2018, Mariatou Yap told the press that the assistance was sourced from President Paul Biya’s goodwill instructions to comfort displaced persons and victims of the on-going di sorder in the South West and North West Regions of Cameroon.
