“Because I Am A Girl” Campaign Launched in Yaounde

An initiative of Plan International, it is meant to empower the Cameroonian girl child by sending her to school and giving her a voice.

 

“Educating a woman is educating a nation,” so goes a famous saying. It is probably because of this fact that the charity, Plan International, has launched an awareness campaign on the rights of the girl child to mark 20 years of its existence in Cameroon. Dubbed, “Because I Am A Girl,” BIAAG 2, it will be the focus of Plan’s 2016-2030 Agenda.

The campaign was launched yesterday, November 3, 2016, in the Yaounde City Council Hall by the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, Prof. Marie Thérèse Abena Ondoua. She was accompanied by her colleagues of Social Affairs and Scientific Research and Innovation. Prof. Abena Ondoua said the awareness was meant to stop all forms of discrimination against the girl child by sending her to school, giving her leadership roles and ensuring her welfare.
