BIR-GP Recruitment : Operation For Centre Region Launched

Defence Minister, Joseph Beti Assomo witnessed the operation and also had a guided tour of some of the installations in Yaounde on November 18, 2018.

Some 850 out of the 2,601 candidates in the Centre Region initially declared apt for the recruitment of a total of 2,000 commandos of the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) and 600 commandos of the Presidential Guard nationwide will today November 19, 2018 continue the other phases of the recruitment operation. The 850 candidates for the Centre qualified for the remaining part of the recruitment operation took part in a 20-kilometre race each of them carrying a 20-kg bag of sand.

The first 850 candidates in the race automatically qualified. After the qualifying to continue for the recruitment operation the candidates underwent other tests in a 10 km race and in the afternoon did an electric poll march. The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Joseph Beti Assomo witnessed the arrival of the candidates in the 20-km race and handed the jersey to the first candidate Etoundi Paul Destin from Obala in Lekié Division.

After this, he had a guided visit to the tents where medical care was given to candidates who had health problems, as well the centre for the biometric registration of the candidates. Officials in charge of the recruitment operation disclosed that the 2,600 commandos of the BIR and Presidential Guard that will finally be recruited must succeed in the more detailed medical test that will come at the end.
